how to train your dragon

starring: jay baruchel, gerard butler, america ferrera, jonah hill, kristen wiig, tj miller

directed by: chris sanders, dean deblois

This is the best movie I have ever watched. The emotional roller coaster the main character, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the third takes, grabs the audience in an astounding way, which I have never felt in any other movie. This is a one of a kind movie and is truly enchanting to a whole new level. One of the best things about this movie is how Toothless -the Night Fury- can’t talk, making Hiccup’s friendship with him all the more meaningful. It is a wordless friendship, but the most powerful friendship between human and animal I have ever seen. It is especially meaningful because Hiccup goes against the rules of his tribe - the Hooligan tribe- , by not killing the most deadly dragon known to Vikings, but still puts his friendship with the dragon in front of everything else. Which is why, for me, two of the best parts of this movie are the scenes ‘Forbidden friendship’ and ‘Test drive’, because they are huge parts of Hiccup’s bond with Toothless.

Also, Toothless’ personality makes this movie have a funny side, and some of the expressions he makes are hilarious. The soundtrack by John Powell perfects this masterpiece. From the slow, beautiful ‘Romantic flight’, and “Forbidden friendship’, to the upbeat, exciting ‘Test Drive’, the soundtrack is beautiful and completely worthy of this masterpiece of a film. This movie is a beautiful experience for young and old, and if you haven’t watched it, you have to! It has meaningful messages, amazingly detailed characters, and an exciting, thrilling plot. This movie, as well as having its exciting bits, has many sweet, beautiful scenes that make me wish the movie never ends.

You aren’t left longing for more, because, as well as a sequel - How To Train Your Dragon 2-, and a prequel - How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World-, there are two series of action-packed adventures - Dragons: Race To The Edge and Dragons: Riders of Berk-, and one stunningly heartwarming end to this amazing franchise, How To Train Your Dragon: Homecoming.

ratatouille

starring: patton oswalt, lou romano, janeane garofalo, peter sohn, ian holm

directed by: brad bird

First and foremost, the animation in Ratatouille is absolutely stunning. The details in the characters, the scenery, and the food are all so well-crafted that it feels like you're watching a living, breathing world. The artistry on display in this film is truly remarkable. But beyond the visuals, Ratatouille also has a heartwarming story that is perfect for all ages. The idea of a rat who loves to cook might seem strange at first, but the filmmakers do an amazing job of making it not only believable but also inspirational. The film is all about following your dreams, no matter how big or small they may be, and it does so with such grace and charm.

big hero 6

starring: ryan potter, scott adsit, jamie chung, genesis rodriguez,tj miller

directed by: don hall, chris williams

Let me say the visuals and animation are absolutely stunning. The movie really feels you in for the first hour with the two brothers and an amazing showcase of technology and science. Whether you’re 19 like myself or a 4 year old toddler, you’re minds going to appreciate the imagination put into the film. It has a great combination of humor and wholesomeness throughout the film that makes it a great to watch family film or even just a late night binge movie when you’re alone.

shrek

starring: mike myers, eddie murphy, cameron diaz, conrad vernon, john lithgow

directed by: andrew adamson, vicky jenson

I've seen this 2001 DreamWorks animated film loads of times and it's a great film. I always love it! It's one of my favourite animated films of all time. I remember I saw this at the Savoy Dublin with my mum in summer 2001 and we thought we enjoyed it.

Shrek is straight-up a masterpiece. It's hilarious, wholesome, and weirdly deep for a movie about a green ogre. The humor hits every time, the soundtrack slaps (All Star forever ), and the characters? ICONIC. Donkey alone deserves his own award. Rewatching this never gets old. 5/5, no notes, perfect vibes.
